A newlywed tale!!!

So here is a funny story of something that happened to me over the past weekend.

Saturday morning, my wife and I were in the midst of fulfilling our reproductive duties (there is really no good way to be politically correct!!! hehe) As we came to completion of our saturday morning ritual, I overheared some footsteps on our deck! I quickly threw on some sweatpants and a T-Shirt and proceeded to the door. Who do I find? Our little Jehovah's Witness friend had returned to see us and brought along another young lady, also a JW...

Well, dammit, I didn't want to engage in any kind of spiritual conversation at that time and neither did my wife so I had to find a quick and easy way to get them to leave. My mind was flying with ideas as I answered the door. They said hello and immediately asked me if my wife was home (I believe she is their main target.) I proceeded to tell them I had driven her to work earlier that morning (explaining why her car was in the driveway) and I had to go and get her in about an hour to then join some friends for the afternoon. I bid them farewell and they happily left as I went back into my home to brew a pot of coffee.

My wife, no longer hearing voices, crept up to the kitchen to make sure the coast was clear. When she realized we were alone, she simply said "And who are you sleeping with if I'm at work?" A small detail that is of importance is that our bedroom window was open and is a mere 10 feet away from our deck and main entrance to our home. Oh dear! The possibility that the two girls might have heard me in mid-coitus with a woman (andI told them my wife was at work) had never even crossed my mind before that point!!!

So my wife and I laughed about the whole thing, creating possible scenario's about how the little good willed JW's would come to announce the devastating news that me, her husband, was having an affair while she was at work! What a terrible man I am!

Farewell to the Pooch...

...and not a moment too soon! Returning to the story concerning the stray dog that had been at our house, he is now gone. His owners came by to pick him up finally. We had also found out that they were trying to get rid of him (so were we in a sense) He was eating at my wife's garden and digging holes in our lawn (one hole that is a direct reason for my presently twisted left ankle!)

So, here's farewell to "Bear" (we called him)

Moma's Hands - A Poem

My wife asked me to find this poem for her - I thought it really nice so I will share it (although it can be found elsewhere :)

Mama's Hands

I saw you hide your hands in line,
behind that lady fair,
I noticed too, hers soft and white--
immaculate from care.
But Ma, I say, it's no disgrace
to have workin' hands like you,
and had she lived the life you have,
she'd have hands just like it too.

But her hands have never hauled in wood,
or worked in God's good earth.
They've never felt the bitter cold,
or chopped ice for waitin' stock,
they've never doctored sick ones,
or dressed a horse's hock.
They've never pulled a hip-locked calf,
or packed water to the barn
They've probably never patched blue jeans,
or had worn ol' socks to darn.

They've never touched a young-n,
or caressed a fevered head,
with hands so gently folded,
all night beside his bed.

They've never scrubbed a kitchen floor,
or done dishes every day.
They've never guided with those hands
a child who's lost the way.

They've never made a Christmas gift,
shaped by a lovin' hand.
They've never peeled apples,
nor vegestables they've canned.
They've never worn a blister,
or had calluses to show,
for all they've done for others,
and the kindnesses I know.

So you see, my dearest Mama--
yours are hands of love.
And I bet the Lord will notice
when he greets you from above.

It's a dog day afternoon...

So as of yesterday, a small stray puppy seems to have appeared on our property. He's a really cute little guy. He's almost all black with a couple of dark brown markings on his feet. Almost the colours of a rotweiler, but very fluffy and his eyes are so light blue they almost glow. He almost looks like a cross between a husky and a rotty. Because we live right beside a school, there is lots of traffic, especially in the mornings. I would hate myself if I found out that this little puppy would get run over, so to try and help him out, we took him into our fenced yard and let him play with our puppies as we try to locate his home. We set up some signs in the local post office and put the word out at the local convenience store. I really want to find this puppies home. he has a collar and is really cute, but we can't keep him. My wife sees right through my tough guy act. I say things like "If he's not claimed by the weekend, I'm tying him up to the SPCA door and leaving him there so I don't have to pay the 75$ drop off fee." or "I'm gonna have to drop him off on a back road somewhere and let him find his way to his home." She told me last night "I see it in your eyes...you want to keep him don't you?!" and the bad thing is, yes, I do. But I already have two dogs (one of which was a stray that we kept) so we really don't need another dog. And have to train another puppy, no freaking way, not yet, not for a long time. We had a look at the top of his mouth and it's got lots of pink. He's going to be a stupid, tough ox of a dog. And probably a good size (I would love to keep him just to see how big he gets...huge legs and paws!!!). So I'm going to call my wife later and see if somebody called to claim the puppy, if not, I'm going to call the town office and ask them to some pick him up sometime this week and let them put him in their kennel. Ugh...

As for the questions I posted a little while back regarding my faith, I am still reading and researching and have find myself much more comfortable at being able to support my religion...if anyone cares...

George Thorogood!

Well, my wife and I and some of our friends went to see the RocknRoll bad boy George Thorogood over the weekend and I must say, he can still put on a great show. We had floor seats, row ten just left of the centre aisle. Right below the speakers. My eardrums will probably buzz until tomorrow.

So, George had a yound Saskatoon boy open for him, Kyle Riabko I think is his name. Very good guitar player, very into his set. he was fun to watch. Thorogood was set to get on stage around 9:15 pm and I'm pretty sure he was right on time. From the first song, there was joints a blazing in the place. Constantly a scent of the good ol' rock'n'roll marijuana!!! I couldn't help but smile (hehe) The crowd was on its feet to welcome the icon on stage and sat down in the middle of his first tune. But when he started on "I Drink Alone" (I think it was the third or forth song in the set) the crowd got back on it's feet an dstayed standing until way after the forth encore! (yes four!) I think the George was very please with the show. My only beef with the whole thing was his bass player. I can't remeber his name but he is one of the original Destroyers...what a boring pretty boy he is. Just stood there and did very little to entertain the crowd compared to the rest of the band. I understand that they have a heavy schedule (check out their website www.georgethorogood.com/www) to see their tour line up and they have 10-20 shows a month. So I see how maybe they aren't all at their 100% every show...

All in all, a very fun show to go see (Bad to the Bone, One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer, Move it on Over and I Drink Alone were my fav's of the night)

Where is the connection?

First, a little background; We had some Jehovah’s Witnesses come and visit my wife and I last Saturday as I was making brunch for the both of us. My wife, I must add, is incredibly welcoming and all are invited in for a cup of coffee. This is likely uncommon for these people as they always seem hesitant to relax in our presence. They might be expecting us to be aggressive or to try to persecute them, but that is not the case...So we have these Jehovah’s Witnesses sitting at our table and they briefly get into a couple questions about faith and do we believe in God. I allow my wife to talk to them and I just butt out. The younger of the two Jehovah’s starts talking about the name of God and asking rhetorical questions about "Is Jesus God?"; "Who is Jesus?" and more things like that...they're recruiting. My wife and I are not interested (I don’t think they know that,) but we enjoy discussing other opinions and use these times to further our own knowledge and points of view...Unfortunately, they did not stay long (less than 5 minutes as they saw that our brunch was just about ready - quite polite these two ladies were) but they did leave us with two of their pamphlet/magazine "The Watchtower".

A couple days later, when I was home alone, I began to flip through the one that questions the identity of Jesus. I know for a fact that these Witnesses will be returning and I would like to be a little prepared to talk to them...they prepare before they come to see us; I see it as fair to be able to present them with an intelligent discussion. So as I'm reading some of their documentation (everything they quote has the reference, so I find myself reading the bible to cross examine their claims and find that many of their conclusions differ from my conclusion of the same text) I come across a paragraph that now starts to question the validity of the Holy Trinity. The Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that there is no actual proof in the documentation that supports the idea of a Holy Trinity. Thus, in turn negating the fact that Jesus is the Son of God, and Jesus is the Almighty God, and Jesus is the Holy Spirit (vice-versa) = Holy Trinity. The Watchtower pamphlet also discusses quotes from the bible (by Jesus, other people around him, or some documentation taken from the Old Testament.) This information is used by them to try and convince people that Jesus is not also the Almighty God (Holy Trinity) but a prophet or angel or a lesser God. Either way, this idea of theirs is that Jesus is not God. I disagree with this idea.

Long story short, I have spent the better part of my free time this week researching the bible and Christian texts, discussing with doctors of theology and with catholic priests about their take on the issue to help build and refresh my knowledge on the matter. The only problem is I’m still looking for more. I am having a difficult time putting together and creating a strong, concise argument to support my opinion. You must understand, I do not doubt my belief, just having a difficult time wording my point of view. I enjoy being accurate in what is discuss.

So, I will continue my research and hopefully, find some good information to support my beliefs.
